Sally Hansen Salon Effects Review
Sally Hansen has created a variety nail strips, similar to Minx, that allow users to easily create salon-quality nail designs at home. The appliques are made of real polish and removed with polish remover. I picked up two sets:
Frock Star, Kitty Kitty |
Each set comes with 16 nail strips, a nail file, a wooden cuticle stick, and detail instructions:
Application: I had no problem applying these. They are very flexible, so they melded to the curvature of my nails very well and I had no issues with wrinkles or air bubbles. The problem I had was the fit of these. My cuticles are just not round enough for these. Cutting 10 nail strips to fit isn't my idea of fun. Plus, any hope I had of getting two manis out of one package was dashed once I realized how much adjusting I had to do.
Wear: I only wore this for two days, so I can't be the best judge of wear, but I didn't experience any chipping, tip wear, or peeling. I didn't use a top coat. I can't imagine these lasting a full 10 days with out at least some top coat, though. Maybe a week at the most.
TL;DR: Try these if you wear manis for a week+, suck at all things nail art, or need a quick mani for something special. Ignore these if you change your polish as often as I do.
Here are some pics of Frock Star, which looks practically identical to Deborah Lippmann Happy Birthday:

Hmmm they remind me of these nail foils I got.
ReplyDeleteBut that glitter polish is gorgeous
it really does look just like the polish! i guess if it was a super unique pattern that is difficult to achieve on your own it would be enticing (like the mirror minx) but dang.. its identical!
ReplyDeleteWow it looks the same!
ReplyDeleteI didn't see this product here..when it's going to be in store, I might try it..curiosity!
I really like your blog and so I've tagged you with the Stylish Blogger Award :)

I haven't seen these in stores here yet (though I've been away for a bit). They do seem very pricey.
ReplyDeleteCathryn - That's how I feel! All the designs out now can be easily replicated with Konad or glitter polishes.
ReplyDeleteLucy - Thanks!!
those are pretty cool.. convenient for people like me who HATE painting their nails, but HATE not having nail polish on! haha :) i don't think i'd purchase at that price, though..
ReplyDeleteI used these a couple of weeks ago and loved them! The first time I used them they took a while, but the second time (yes, I got 2 manicures out of them) it was super quick.
ReplyDeleteMake sure you have a small pair of scissors and if you have short nails you can cut a strip in two and use it for two nails. They last forever, and I took them off after 5 days because I was bored, since there was barely any chipping.
One thing though, it seems they are super hard to take off!
I love these! I was able to do a mani and a pedi with one set!! I got mine on sale at CVS. Buy 1 get 1 50% off.
ReplyDeleteI am a bartender and nail polish doesn't last long cause I am forever washing dishes, my salon effects lasted 7 days before I took them off, and I worked 5 of those days!
I think getting them on sale is good, I don't think I would normally buy them otherwise. I figured I pay $15 for a mani and the polish only last 2 days so it's a bit of a deal.
